History of my Mosaics
First remembered contact with mosaics happened to me at the Pergamon museum in Berlin. Looking at the Ishtar Gate of Babylon, ancient Mesopotamian city, at an age of about 8 years left a long lasting impression. I was impressed by the blue colors, design of the facades, and architecture as well. At a later age and in my teens I created drawings and paintings after nature in art schools in Rostock and Heiligendamm, Northeastern Germany. In 2005 I had my first experience in creating a table top mosaic after a drawing with marble in Hamburg, Germany. After moving to OKC in 2007/ 2008 I started to collect glass cutting mosaic tools and self studied books about mosaic. In January of 2010 we moved to Anchorage, Alaska. A visit to arcticmermaidmosaic - Terri Ann Kilborn in 2010/ 2011 made me starting glass mosaic with vitreous glass. In 2011 I finally created my first glass mosaic Denali using mainly vitreous glass at that time. Later I incorporated pebbles, beach glass, fossiled shells, leather, stained glass and other types of glass, stones and fossils. Inspired by photos and paintings I create landscape mosaics and scenes of Alaska.
